As 2020 is coming to an end, music reviews for the year’s best music are swirling everywhere. It has actually been a decent year for music discovery and I consider “Dance cette zik” by the a newly-formed trio Parbleu as the most praiseworthy breakthrough. The mix of Afro-Beat, Caribbean sounds, French Lyrics and Neapolitan Disco boogie works like a charm in the album, and particularly in “Pas De Saints Au Paradis”. I still marvel at the beauty of the instrumental solo around 4.00 after hearing this song many many times 💛
This album is also a fine example of the incredible music creativity bursting in Naples over the last years. It was recorded in West Hill Studio and released on Periodica Records, both created and managed by the Mystic Jungle crew, which I’ve introduced here.

Arp Frique – Voyage (Feat. Mariseya) – 2020
Future hit 💥 I was lucky enough to grab a test pressing copy of the EP “Minima Bem Li” from Rush Hour and could not resist sharing my favorite song from it.
In his 5th release, Arp Frique keeps a rich colorful sound and his ability to team up with outstanding musicians, while exploring slightly different music genres (particularly Zouk in this case). This cocktail of uplifting songs comes at a the right time to make us travel to warm places, and I am certain that it will be a smashing success when released in October.
Hats off again to Antal from Rush Hour for harvesting such amazing talents of the thriving Amsterdam scene 🙇♂️

Louie Vega Feat. House Of Rhumba – Steel Congo (Roots Mix) – 2004
Going back to his Caribbean roots, this is a lesser-known and refreshing production from a leading figure of the NY House sound. The conga and steel pan instrumentation by House Of Rhumba provides a perfect beach party bliss at every listen.

Daniel Dimbas – Carnaval Soca (Antal Edit) – 2019
Another splendid discovery we can thank Antal for. Along with the almighty Palms Trax, the iconic boss of Rush Hour released 2 edits of songs taken from the “La Diferencia” LP by Guadeloupean Zouk legend Daniel Limbas. Both are great titles that will make the sun shine everywhere ☀️
