Jorge Ben – Waimea 55000 – 1978

In this grim end of 2020 altered by Covid-19, this light-hearted clip of Jorge Ben having a great time on a Rio beach can lift anyone’s spirit. The title “Waimea 55000” is actually a reference to the surfing competition which took place in Arpoador until 1983. Too bad there are no shots of the MPB star riding the waves! 🏄‍♀️
This lesser-known song of Jorge Ben’s vast repertoire was recently picked by “serial reissuer” Mr. Bongo for another classic 7″ release of the amazing Brazil45 series, still available for sale here.
